" Try hard, win humbly, lose gracefully and if you must, protest with dignity."

Dr John Wagoner

He played a vital role in starting up the Oregon POA Club, one of the ORPOAC founders.

In the late 1960's, he bought a couple of POA mares from a guy in Idaho, named Halfhide.  He purchased these mares to breed to his stallion (7 M Warriors Bar Bob #7576), from Iowa.  This stallion’s sire is the famous Lady’s Warrior.  John started a breeding program and brought his foals and 7 M Warriors Bar Bob to all of the POA shows.  These foals won several World Championships, several Supreme Champions, and won other prestigious awards.

John also rode 7 M Warriors Bar Bob while he judged dog trials.  This was one of his ways of advertising what a great breed POA is to outside folks.  John had been a member of the POAC for over 40 years.  He passed away in November 2006.  He had been a national inspector, state inspector, President and Treasurer for the ORPOAC.  He also served on the board of the Willamette Valley POA Club (no longer active).  John had been very active with POA’s over the years.  First, he went to the shows with my older sisters.  Then he went to the POA shows with me and my little sister.  Later, he went to the shows with my son, his grandson even though my dad was in his 70’s.  He was always there helping with setting up jumps and gaming equipment. In the 1970's and 1980's he put on several shows, along with the 1983 World Show in Walla Walla, Washington.

John had played a vital rule in getting the now called Northwest POA Breeders Futurity (formally known as Oregon Breeders Futurity) going.  He had donated several breedings to his stallion to raise money and to advertise.  This futurity does a lot of advertising in local magazines to get the word out about the POA breed, and over the years actually got quite a few new members thanks to this advertising.
